Financial, food and clothing assistance
FIRC understands that emergencies happen. A family’s income can quickly be affected by an unexpected change in employment, an injury that keeps you from working or a child’s illness. Results from an income crisis can be eviction, disconnection of heat or the inability to afford medical care. FIRC’s Community Support program offers financial assistance through housing and rent assistance, utility assistance, medical and prescription assistance. We also offer a food bank and clothing assistance through our Summit Thrift & Treasure Thrift Store.
Financial Assistance for the following emergencies requires an appointment with a FIRC Community Support Coordinator along with a photo ID, your two most recent paystubs and documents pertaining to your emergency. Please call FIRC to setup and appointment 970-262-3888. Appointments are one hour and are available from 9:00-3:00 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Walk-in appointments are not available.
Housing and Rent Assistance:
If you are facing eviction, will be unable to pay your upcoming rent or mortgage payment or if you need help with a deposit on a new apartment, FIRC may be able to help with a portion of your payment. FIRC can only help with financial assistance FIRC can only help with rent or mortgage assistance two times in a period of 5 years. Utility Assistance:
FIRC can assist with heating and electricity bills only, other utilities do not apply. You will need to provide a copy of your late or disconnection notices.
If you need assistance between the months of November thru April, you must file an application with LEAP through Summit County Social Services first. Then you can contact FIRC for an appointment to see if we can help.

Medical Assistance:
If you are in need of If you are in need of urgent medical treatment for medical, dental, or vision issues, FIRC may be able to help. It is best to speak with FIRC before undergoing the medical procedure to determine if we can help. You will need to bring in a letter from your medical provider explaining the treatment required and the cost. Recommendations from the Summit Community Care Clinic are also helpful.

If you are unable to afford prescription costs, FIRC may be able to help. Proof of prescription will be necessary.

Food Bank:
FIRC is home to one of Summit County’s largest food banks. You may use the food bank once a month or more if it is an emergency. A photo ID must be provided to use the food bank. Food Bank hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30-2:30 p.m. and the food bank is located in the FIRC Office at 103 Main Street in the town of Dillon.
Clothing Assistance:
If you are in need of clothes for a job interview, school or winter in Summit County, FIRC can help. Vouchers for FIRC’s Summit Thrift & Treasure Thrift Store are available twice a year. Hours for vouchers are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30-2:30 p.m. or by appointment at the FIRC Office. A photo ID must be provided.
