Parenting Classes & Mamacitas
Parent Group Meetings
Families United works with community experts to offer parenting classes during the year in the formats presentations, discussions and parent and child interaction. Topics are based on parent’s feedback and education needs and cover the areas of discipline, language development, sleep and routines. The goal of the meeting is to provide advice and give parents the opportunity to share information about parenting issues and child development. Parents learn and support each other, observe their children with other children and practice parenting skills. All group meetings are free and include childcare and dinner.
Parenting Classes:
Active Parenting Now
Multi -week classes for parents of children ages 5-12
Active Parenting Now is a six session class designed to help parents of children ages 5-12 improve their skills in the areas of teaching respect, communication, responsibility, power struggles, self-esteem and independence.
Dates: Thursdays April 22-May 27 and Tuesday, May 11, 2010
Time: 5:30-8:00 p.m.
Location: Upper Blue Elementary, Breckenridge
Cost: $48 per adult or $72 per couple – cost covers all six sessions, parent handbook and dinner
Childcare: $1.00 per hour per child

Mamacitas
The goal of the Mamacitas group is to offer programs to build Latina empowerment in women and men through topics focusing on self-esteem, health, immigration, law enforcement, mental health and self-defense. The group meets twice a month and is open to the community. Childcare and dinner are provided.
Location: Dillon Valley Elementary School
Time: 5:30 p.m.
Cost: Free. Childcare and dinner are also free.
